Deidara was a prodigy of Iwagakure. He made Jonin at a young age, but much more of his life there isn’t known. He left his village to become a terrorist bomber for hire, for the sole reason of being able to practice his art more often. Unfortunately for him, these actions brought him to the attention of the Akatsuki, and soon after Orochimaru’s defection they approached him, asking him to join their ranks as a full member.
Deidara refused.
He was visited by Sasori, Itachi and Kisame with the invitation to join, and his refusal did not go over well. He got in a confrontation with Itachi, and nearly lost his life to Itachi’s Genjutsu, or more accurately, to his own explosives, tricked by Itachi’s gentjutsu. Recognizing he was beaten, Deidara agreed to join Akatsuki and became Sasori’s partner. However he still harbored a deep resentment and loathing for Itachi, and he planned to kill him when he believed he was strong enough.
As the youngest member of Akatsuki, Deidara’s assigned target was the Jinchuuriki Gaara. He succeeded in capturing the Kazekage (though not without losing an arm for his trouble) and he and Sasori managed to retrieve and deliver Gaara and the Shukaku to the sealing statue before pursuing Konoha forces could stop them.
However, after the ceremony the two faced off against Team Kakashi plus Sasori’s grandmother Chiyo. Deidara, cocky with success, even though he was missing an arm, tried to lure Naruto away from the others to put one up on Itachi by capturing Itachi’s target. Kakashi joined Naruto, leaving Sakura and Chiyo to fight Sasori. Deidara managed to escape Kakashi and Naruto, but lost his other arm in the process. Sasori lost his life in the fight. Deidara found the irony of the partner he’d respected, whose ideals of art as being ever lasting, having died so easily to be amusing.
Deidara got his arms re-attached and a new partner in Tobi, who was constantly harassing him, and in turn Deidara was constantly beating up on in return.
Deidara’s next big appearance would be his last. Hearing Sasuke had defeated Sasori’s nemesis Orochimaru, Deidara felt like the Uchiha had stolen his kill. At a chance to show up Itachi by taking out his little brother (or finding Naruto, whichever came first) Deidara took Tobi and went hunting for Sasuke or Naruto. He found Sasuke first. They fought. Sasuke defeated Deidara. Sasuke had no intention of killing the blond, but Deidara, being the psychopath that he was, had no intention of being beaten by a second Uchiha. He used his suicide technique to destroy everything in a mile radius. He died believing he’d taken Sasuke out with him, but, in fact, he hadn’t.
He was more or less the definition of a sore loser.
Personality Edit
Deidara is hot tempered and explosive. He’s easily annoyed, impatient, and sadistic. He enjoys a good fight, and even more, he enjoys his “art” of blowing people and things up. He finds it genuinely beautiful and exciting to end someone’s life end in a flashy display of pyrotechnics.
He’s not sane. He’s foul-mouthed, cruel, and rarely goes into anything fully prepared because he’s just too cocky to give a damn. He doesn’t think he’s immortal, on the contrary, he expects to go out with a bang, and prizes the fleeting transience of life. His ideals around life, death and explosives are twisted but deeply ingrained; he’s probably well beyond a bit of therapy and some mood stabilizers.
He loathes Uchiha Itachi. Though he recognizes Itachi as stronger, and the Sharingan as “Art”, he developed his eye device in the hopes of one day having a rematch against Itachi, one which he plans to win.

Some think he looks like a girl. He is NOT. He has heard it before, he does not want to hear it again. His voice makes up for it, unmistakably deep and masculine. Others see him as a cool, skilled, athletic hotso.
One would think with the constant string of people mistaking him for female he’d try to do something to make his appearance a little more manly. But no. His yellow-blond hair is pulled up in a perky high pony-tail, his bangs falling across the left side of his face completely. His eyes are bright blue, his build slim and athletic. His face is classically pretty, again, nothing manly about it.
He tends to wear slightly baggy clothes. His face is expressive and everything he feels is worn on his sleeve, as it were. Usually that means his expression is some level of psychotic grin or sulking pout.

He’s a fighter, a REAL one. He’s tenacious, skilled, fast, and deadly. Pain? Pain doesn’t slow him down. He’s had his arms blown off and kept at it. No seriously, no arms, and he still kicks ass. That's Deidara for you.He’s got these mouths on his hands, right… No this isn’t the set-up of a raunchy joke. He really has mouths on his palms. With them he can infuse normal clay with his chakra, making it more or less explosive depending on the amount of chakra he adds. Meanwhile he also forms it into pretty shapes, which is his “artistic” side of the whole exploding clay thing. With these little sculptures he can do a variety of things, from attack people with them to using them as transportation. He can even make exploding clay clones of himself. With the giant mouth on his chest (that resembles a tattoo and body art stitching until he releases it) he can even turn himself into a giant bomb. That technique is kind of… final.
In Neo he can do most of the things he can do with exploding clay in canon, mainly at the moment his basic C1 and C2 explosives and mines. Using his birds and dragons to fly with, his millions of tiny cell-level bombs, his C4 attacks are all things he just doesn’t know he can do. Yet.

Added by LeifySo he had parents in Terra once, right? Except that when he was maybe ten, there was that mysterious case of arson that took up the house in a blazing fireball of beautiful pyrotechnics. The police never did solve that case.
So Deidara was officially chucked in some orphanage, spent half his time doodling or working at chemistry, and the other half running with a gang of street kids in the Abyss until he just ditched the orphanage altogether and went to live with the gang. He was a good fighter, kind of runty, but he earned respect pretty quickly with his psychotically relentless method of attacking.
So he was doing pretty well with the feral little pack of punks, he wasn’t the leader or anything, but no one messed with him or called him girly or anything—not after that one time, anyway, and no one went down that street, not after what Deidara did to that kid. Most pertinent lesson in anatomy any of those thugs would ever get—plus, they let him blow shit up all he wanted.
Then the leader got the bright idea that the gang should make a name for itself. Take out one of the Akatsuki. This brilliant scheme was immediately enacted upon the first member of that prestigious group they encountered. Deidara was fourteen. The man they met was named Uchiha Itachi.
Deidara was the only survivor of that little experiment in idiocy. Itachi’s mocking words about failure engraved into his mind ever after.
So that was the end of his street punk days for a while. He met some strange guy who convinced him to go back to school as a good alternative to starving. He applied himself to classes, especially chemistry—he was naturally gifted and scared the fuck out of his teachers—and art. He got a scholarship in graphical design, something he was good at, and then promptly switched to sculpture with as many side classes in science as he could get.
Everyone urged him to go back to graphical design, but he was stubborn. Sculpture and clay were his love, but it was undeniable that his aesthetic with sculpture was just… Weird. Where his graphical and vector art was stunning, and his mind for science was genius, his works in sculpture were just… Strange. Sometimes cute, mostly deformed. But he wouldn’t be swayed.
He met some guy named Hidan in school, they shared a few classes, talked now and then. Whatever.
But Deidara never forgot how much he hated Itachi.

Shikamaru: Best friend's little brother. Also a friend in his own right, Deidara likes Shika because they can actually hold intelligent conversations. As they've gotten to know each other Deidara has come to respect Shikamaru's quiet goals, and come to care for him like a little brother almost. Shika is important to Deidara, and Deidara is protective, in a strange way. He won't put up with anyone badmouthing Shika, and Shikamaru's death has driven him berserk.
- Nataku: Some guy he met on the network. Deidara thinks Nataku is fucked in the head, but doesn't mind that. In fact, if it weren't for Nataku making him wear a dress to Azula's party, he'd think Nataku was pretty okay.
- Sunako: Lady who gave him a place to stay. He's begun to see her as one of "his". Someone he protects and someone he likes. He enjoys her odd sense of "beauty" and thinks she has an artistic take on things.
- Hibari: His boss. The guy who signs his paycheck. Deidara respects him. Since Hibari bought him after his death Deidara feels both more loyal to and more comfortable with Hibari.
